August 21- Sullivan/Rustic Cyn

Moderately paced 6 mi, 1600 ft gain, fascinating hike in Sullivan and Rustic Cyns.
See the remnants of structures of a WWII Nazi camp and then later
an Artist colony.

Meet at the Towsley Canyon parking area OUTSIDE the gate at 6:50 for 7:00 departure (Please do not meet at the trail head. The trail head has been changed, so to avoid confusion, we will ALL meet at Towsley)

Bring water, lunch, Bug spray, sun block, hat and sturdy shoes.
August 28-Matt Nelson will lead you on a great, cool, short local hike today in Whitney Canyon. Please meet at the green gate at the end of the Park and Ride at the end of Newhall Avenue and the SR-14 freeway at 8:00 AM. You will probably be done no later than 11. Please bring lots of water and snacks. It is recommended that you wear long pants as there is some overhanging brush along the narrow part of the trail. If you wear shorts, you may get a few scratches.

September 4- Dawson Gap to Vincent Gap via Dawson saddle and Mt Baden Powell

This is a moderate 8 mile, high country hike through fragrant jeffrey pines, along one of the most beautiful sections of the Pacific Crest Trail.
Enjoy the cool breezes and spectacular views at our lunch stop
at the top of Mt. Baden Powell. 5 mile car shuttle.

Meet at Vons Grocery at corner of Sand Canyon Rd and Soledad Canyon Rd  in Canyon Country. Bring hat, sunblock, lunch/snack and plenty of water.  Park at the far end of the parking lot straight out from the entrance
to the Vons Store at 7:20 for 7:30 departure, or meet at Vincent Gap at  8:45

September 11-Today will be an easy day! We will be doing the 6.1 mile loop at Towsley. If it is not beastly hot, we can add the shorter loop too, an additional 2 miles. Meet at Towsley Canyon, inside the gate at the first parking lot on the right, which is free. Meet at 8:00 AM! Bring water, snacks, and sun protection.

September 18-Big Santa Anita Canyon Loop through lush, shady woods including a stop to see 50ft high Sturdevant Falls. This hike will be a 9.5 mile loop that includes shallow stream crossings and a 2100 ft gain. Wear sturdy shoes and bring poles, water, and lunch. A Forrest Adventure Pass is also required for parking. Meet at Towsley Cyn at 5:45 AM for a 6 AM departure to the trailhead. This is a strenuous hike on a well-maintained trail, that will be difficult for beginners.
To drive to the trailhead directly, take I-210 to Arcadia, exit on Santa Anita Ave and head north. Continue to the edge of the city, pass a sturdy gate (open 6AM to 10PM) and ascend along a curling asphalt rode to the road's end, Chantry Flat (apx 6 miles), where you pass the trailhead and enter the first parking lot. Parking at the trailhead fills up quickly as this is a very popular hiking location. If the parking lots below the pack station are already full, you have to park along the side of the road down the hill from the first lot. We will meet in front of the bathroom prior to the first parking lot, next to the trailhead, to begin the hike by 7:30 AM.

September 25-Today will be another easy, local hike in Pico Canyon. This 8 mile trail is all on a fire road which terminates at the oldest oil well site in California, Odeen #! Bring water, snacks and sun protection. Lunch is optional.

 Rain cancels all hikes!!!
